Tourism Increases in Pistoia

Over two million tourists visited Pistoia in a period of nine months in 2018, representing an increase of nearly 18% over 2016.

The province of Pistoia sits within Italy’s idyllic Tuscany region and its capital is the city of Pistoia, where visitors can find much to enjoy, including the Piazza del Duomo, the Cathedral of San Zeno and the 11th-century Palazzo dei Vescovi, which houses a number of fascinating museums.

Although not as popular as other Tuscan gems, such as Florence, Pisa and Siena, Pistoia’s authenticity has been slowly attracting more visitors and, in 2018, near-record numbers were seen, with two million tourists visiting the region between January and September.

Part of the increase in tourism may be due to Pistoia being named Italian Capital of Culture in 2017 and the city’s officials have been working hard to promote the region’s quaint attractions and unique culture.

The figures, which were collected by business academics in Florence, suggested that Lombardy was the most popular region in Italy to visit in 2018, as well as Campania, Lazio and Emilia-Romagna. Such findings further confirm the attraction of multi-stop custom tours of Italy, which allow visitors to explore more than one Italian region on a single vacation. Visiting two, three or four Italian cities in different regions allows visitors to get a well-rounded experience of the diverse Italian culture and attractions.
