Located in the most north eastern part of the region is the beautiful country of Friuli-Venezia Giulia. It is one of the twenty regions of Italy and one of the five self-governing regions of Italy with unusual statue. It has an area of 7,856 square kilometers and about 1.2 million inhabitants with Trieste as its capital. Due to its size and oddly shape, the region has various climates and landscapes. A natural maiden to the sea for many Central European countries, the region passes through by the main transport routes between the east and west of southern Europe. It incorporates the historical-geographical region of Friuli and a small portion of historic region of Venezia Giulia (known in English also as Julian March), each with its own distinctive history, ethnicities and uniqueness. The total area can be subdivided into mountainous terrain, hilly and coastal plans. Friuli-Venezia Giulia is one of Italy’s smallest regions, yet one of the country’s most composite. It is renowned for its mixtures of cuisine rooting from both Friuli and Giuliani traditions, and its wines.

Its history involves quite a lot of back and forth with its neighboring countries. During the Roman times, Friuli-Venezia Giulia was located within Regio X Venetia et Histria of Roman Italy. Cesare Maldini was an Italian professional football player and manager, who played in the position of a defender. His career started off with him playing on the Italian side and then later moved over to Milan in 1954. During his twelve seasons with the club, the team won four Serie A league titles and one European cup. He also played internationally for the Italian National Team and participated in the 1962 World Cup. He held the post of captain for both Milan and Italy. He retired in 1967 and died in 2016.

Fabio Capello was also an Italian professional footballer and manager. Recently, he was the head coach for a Russian National Football Team. Capello has a passion for collecting fine arts and earns a collection which is valued at over ten million pounds. He represented SPAL 1907, Roma, AC Milan and Juventus. He was able to win various trophies during his 15 year career including three Serie A titles with Juventus, a Coppa Italia and a Serie A with Milan in 1979. He worked as a manager with Milan in 1993 and was able to capture another four Serie A titles for Milan. He later spent a year working with Real Madrid and won the La Liga Tittle in 2006. Overall, he was regarded as one of the best coaches due to wins in major league championships.

Dino Zoff is an Italian professional football player and held the position of goal keeper. In 1982 tournament, he captained the Italian National Team and won the best goalkeeper of the tournament award. Zoff achieved great success with clubs including, Juventus winning six Serie A titles, two Coppa Italia titles and reaching two European Cup Finals. Zoff was particularly known for his handling, positioning, calm mindest, composture and organizational skills and hence he was named 3rd greatest goalkeeper of the 20th century. In 1999, Zoff placed 47th on the World Football Magazine 100’s greatest players of the twentieth century. Zoff pursued a managerial career after retiring for professional football, coaching the Italian National Team and reaching the EURO 2000 Finals.

Ermes di Coloret worked as a royal officer in the service of Emperor Ferdinand III of Hapsburg. He also served the Grand Duke of Tuscany and the Holy Roman Emperor. He later moved to the province of Udine where he started writing poems during the latter part of his listen. He wrote over 200 verses in both Friulian and Italian language, which became the most popular reading ability language and the foundation for the Friulian dialect today.

Giovanni da Udine specialized in fresco painting and was one of the most innovative sculptors. Udine learnt the exceptional method that the ancient Romans used to imitate a marble effect. Ottavio Missoni competed as a professional hurdler in the Olympics. He later started his own fashion line in Trieste. Missoni’s line of tracksuits led him back to the Olympics where the Italian Olympic team wore one of his collections. His line of clothing was then featured in one of Milan’s famous clothing stores La Rinascente. Vogue Italia did advertise Missoni’s clothing line during the 1980’s. Unfortunately, Missoni passed way in 2013 however his clothing line continues to make its mark on the runway.
